  只读了2/3，大篇幅无空行的排版看起来容易疲倦。

  以猫的视角看世界，很有意思也极讽刺，但看过半后絮絮叨叨的平淡也不那么吸引人了。

  The title was translated into Chines as “Game of Throne”, and myriad of anecdotes were depicted in this electric carmaker’s 18-year-endeavor history driven by a simple master plan: start from the expensive sporty car “Roadster” to the luxury sedan “Model S” to the affordable everybody’s car “Model 3”:

  1. Automotive is a narrow margin business with $2,800 average per unit by 5,000 cars per week scale.

  2. Only two US car companies have NOT gone bankrupt: Ford and…Tesla.

  3. Without Model 3, Tesla was a niche maker annual 50,000 cars sales like Porsch/Maserati. The $30K car decided if it is a real car company.

  4. Musk prefers to make a fast, wrong choice that can be undone quickly than to spend time perfecting hypotheticals.

  5. Musk is a firm believer in the power of momentum, that one win leads to another.

  6. J.B. Straubel, and Elon Musk are co-founders of Tesla Motors, setup by Martin Eberhard on July 1st, 2003 with most employees were Stanford Graduates Alumni.

  7. The roadster development was swapping out Lotus Elise’s engine for a electric motor and battery pack-Lithium-ion from LG Chem.

  12. Model S initial design hacked Mercedes CLS by converting it into EV prototype and targeted to beat BMW 5.

  13. MUSK made himself the 4th CEO amid 2008 financial crisis after being Chairman for 5 years and ousting 3 CEOs.

  14. MUSK was paying employee salaries and expenses with his personal checks and credit cards at the time Tesla had only 3 weeks cash left.

  15. Model S big touch screen was unveiled a year before iPad releasing.

  16. Tesla rejected Mercedes E class platform offering to Model S and built a new system around its battery pack technology.

  17. In 2010, Tesla went IPO at $17 per share and acquired old GM-Toyota factory at Fremont SF. Musk had his 1st divorce and ran out of cash, living off personal loan for $200K monthly spending.

  18. Musk had little interest in the hard sell, disliked advertising but preferred word of mouth referrals. Tesla stores act more like customer education centers.

  19. “Don’t ever use the word budget with me again because it means you’ve turned off your brain. “

  20. Tesla first used Sanyo battery as Panasonic rejection in Roadster. However after acquiring Sanyo, Panasonic became partner in Model S with additional $30M fund kicked in.

  21. Tesla tried providing battery packs for eRAV4 and eSmart while benefited a lot manufacture experiences from Toyota and Daimler to build its Model S.

  22. At Tesla, the car development decider was Musk and Musk alone. Model X was developed on Model S platform alongside its production.

  23. In 2012, Model S was delivered and Musk was filed for his 2nd divorce. By the end of 2012, Tesla had delivered only 2,650 Model S with problems and scaled weekly production up to 400 cars.

  24. After losing more than $1B, Tesla reported $11M profit in 1Q2013 with 4, 750 models shipped and $68M sales of credits with CA zero-emission policy, stock price risen to $50. Model S was Car of the Year 2013 with 23000 delivered pricing $100K twice as it promised $50K, outselling $92K Mercedes S.

  25. Model 3 would cost $1B to develop, aiming at the masses with consumer level $30K, which would change automotive landscape.

  26. Since 2013, Musk had envisioned Fremont factory for yearly peak production 500K cars: 50K for Model S and X, 400K for Model 3. The Gigafactory of half million battery packs were setup in Sparks, Nevada alongside Panasonic, aiming to cut down cost from $350 to $250 and further down $100 per KWh.

  27. Tesla has been target of short sellers since its IPO, adding volatility to this already tumultuous stock. It’s $6B accumulated loss till 2015 from short position.

  28. Tesla stock began a run as investors agreed with its rosy sentiment, and its market value overtook Ford and GM in 2017 Spring.

  29. Twitter became Musk’s inferno after his fame reached a new high level as the living embodiment of “Iron Man” after 2015: the acquisition of Solarcity, the manufacturing hell of model 3 in 2017, the rescue of boy’s soccer team trapped in Thailand cave, and intention of Tesla go private $420 per share etc., causing giant “tweet hurricanes”.

  30. Model 3 started at price $49K in August 2018, nowhere near its promised $35K target, which would cause $1000 loss then.

  31. Tesla Shanghai Giga Factory made groundbreaking in 2019 with investment $2B, $1.26B from Chinese bank loan plus $315M for labor and parts. The construction had been done in 10 months and was ready for production in October.

  32. In the final days of 2019, Tesla began to delivered Chines-made Model 3s from its most successful Shanghai factory and the profitable year cemented Tesla the world 3rd most-valuable automaker behind VW and Toyota, since the concept started 15 years ago.

  33. Tesla growth story continues in the COVID. The soaring stock price drove its market from $60B to $100B, overtaking VW as the 2nd MVA. MUSK aimed to raise it to $650B in 10 years, wagering future is all EVs and Tesla would be “the sole winner”.

  34. With its early reopening US operation and humming Shanghai factory, Tesla made wild pickup and growth amid Pandemic while its global rivals suffered harder falling. Tesla hit $100B market value and its stock passed $1,000 in 2020 summer and in just weeks, Tesla market value was worth as much as VW and Toyota combined, and continued soaring from $100B to $800B in 244 days.

  35. MUSK wealth surged from $30B at beginning of 2020 to $200B at the start of 2021, overtaking Amazon Jeff Bezos spot as the world’s richest man.

  36. The next insane goal: deliver 20 million vehicles a year by 2030 and cut down the affordable car cost to $25K by slashing battery cost.

• 大明朝的生员制度

  《国学梯级公开课4》收录了经史子集共二十篇，其中经部主要选取了《论语》、《孟子》和《春秋》的文章，史部则是选取了《史记》、《资治通鉴》和《清史稿》的文章，子部《颜氏家训》、《日知录》、《焚书》、《大同书》和《仁学》的文章，集部选取了《韩愈文集》、《清代散文选》、《唐宋八大家文选》、《戴名世散文选集》和《说苑》的文章。

  

  

  《国学梯级公开课4》里的文章有些是我们耳熟能详、九年义务教育阶段就接触过的，还有一些是相对小众基本上没怎么听说过的，比如子部和集部的这些文章。下面我想就给我留下深刻印象的“生员”制度和大伙儿分享哈阅读感受。

  先说说顾炎武先生的《日知录》里关于生员的论述。“生员”就是官员，有固定数额的称之为“员”。生员制度最早见于《唐书･儒学传》，明朝关于生员的制度也是大体上效仿的唐朝。明朝初年，诸多生员没有不在学习期间得到廪食的。按着明朝的制度，每天都会配给生员膳食津贴，甚至于从民间候补的生员，也仍然会免除他们两个壮丁的徭役。这就是闻名一时的“廪生”。

  其实仔细思考“生员”制度，鄙人发现有点类似于现在的公务员制度。它们都以政府为依托，以考试为手段，以成为保障国家正常运行机构的成员为目的。但这两种制度又有诸多不同之处。通过顾先生的介绍，可以发现古代的读书人真心不多，与今下每年数以万计的公务员考试大军是不可同日而语的。古代的学校会给学生划分等级，但不是按着教学程度和成绩优劣划分，而是按着学生的家庭背景警醒划分。《生员论》中曾记载“合天下之生员，县以三百计，不下五十万人”。由此我们可以大概估算按着当时的行政区划，天下共分为将近1700个县城。

  此外，社会风气与科场规矩也存在一定的问题，诱导了大量的缺乏真才实学的生员投机取巧。“舍圣人之经典、先儒之注疏与前代之史不读，而读起所谓时文”。“时文”类似于今日之范文，就好比是方便面与营养均衡认真搭配的大餐之间的区别，但不得不承认这个果腹与考高分的捷径，这投机的“智慧”倒是古今相似。这种投机的结果便是这些官员认为君贵民轻，以为自己加官进爵为首要任务而非是以为百姓谋求福祉为首要任务，最后这一切都由百姓埋单。

  

  

  

  

  

  了解古人的制度设计，不仅是一个非常有趣的探索过程，而且有利于理解社会的发展进程。
