ALONE Thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson is on his way to visit his father when the single-engine plane in which he is flying crashes. Suddenly, Brian finds himself alone in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a tattered Windbreaker and the hatchet his mother gave him as a present -- and the dreadful secret that has been tearing him apart since his parent's divorce. But now Brian has no time for anger, self pity, or despair -- it will take all his know-how and determination, and more courage than he knew he possessed, to survive. For twenty years Gary Paulsen's award-winning contemporary classic has been the survival story with which all others are compared. This new edition, with a reading group guide, will introduce a new generation of readers to this page-turning, heart-stopping adventure.

  • Stay Positive and on Top of Things.

It’s a simple but significant tiny book without any Worthless sentences. You will not have any rush or pressure like reading a thriller or suspense. Enjoying every line of it is what you’ll obtain, and you’ll regret that you read so fast that you come to the last page like in a blink of eyes.

Basically, Brian is the main character in the story. On his way to visit his recently divorced father in the Canadian mountains, thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson is the only survivor when the single-engine plane crashes. His body battered, his clothes in shreds, Brian must now stay alive in the boundless Canadian wilderness.

More than a survival story, Hatchet is a tale of tough decisions. When all is stripped down to the barest essentials, Brian discovers some stark and simple truths: Self-pity doesn't work. Despair doesn't work. And if Brian is to survive physically as well as mentally, he must discover courage.

It reminds me of my years when I was still a student. Due to different sorts of reasons, I was depressed. Probably I was badly and pitilessly dumped by my beloved girlfriend. Of course, there were a couple of other causes, which would be way off topic if I went into details here. So let me save it. Thank god that I encountered a so inspiring, enlightening and insightful book named The Present by Spencer Johnson, which molded me into a physically and mentally new SELF of no worry of the past, present and future. After The present, I came upon A Thousand Splendid of Suns by Khaled Hosseini, an Afghanistan-America author, converting me also with a considerate and understanding heart. And I kept on reading books like The Power of Now, The Secret, and this one Hatchet. And I loved them.

Whatever you do, wherever and whenever you are, however you do and whether you are poor or rich, you are inclined to feel depressed and despaired time by time. That’s the way how God designed us in the first place. But it is not something we do not have control. By exercising, working, entertaining, reading and so on, we can win a victory over the down sliding image of self. Just don’t get defeated by IT.

Yes yes yes!! Thank you to all the good readers who recommended this to me. And now I fully recommend Hatchet to you whoever is reading my reviews. And I believe you may not like my reviews (probably because of some mistakes you just spotted). But please don’t let it spoil your appetite to bury your head in this fantastic book ever made. Just READ it.
