  这是一本语录式的小品文，或谈情说性，或谈天说理，无所不谈，要之以抒发作者的人生感悟并借以自娱。其中两种最有名，分别是《小窗幽记》和《幽梦影》。前者近儒，所以微言大义多，且常不忘家国情怀；后者近道，所以个人感悟多，近乎玩世。前者多数是摘抄古人的成句而成，借人家的歌曲唱自己的心声，但容易流于僵化，道理谁都懂，但实行起来就不是那么一回事了；后者独抒胸臆，独树一帜，纵然有些道理听起来迂阔，但那份雅致情趣让人惊喜连连，不禁莞尔一笑。前者篇幅多、内容旧，让人无法卒读；后者篇幅少、内容新，让人一口气就读完。故《小窗幽记》浏览一下则可，而《幽梦影》不可不读也。
