In Instant City , Inskeep investigates the 2009 bombing of a Shia religious procession that killed dozens of people and led to further acts of terrorism, including widespread arson at a popular market. As he discovers, the bombing is in many ways a microcosm of the numerous conflicts that divide Karachi, because people wondered if the perpetrators were motivated by religious fervor, political revenge, or simply a desire to make way for new real estate in the heart of the city. Despite the violence that frequently consumes Karachi, Inskeep finds remarkable signs of the city's tolerance, vitality, and thriving civil society-from a world-renowned ambulance service to a socially innovative project that helps residents of the vast squatter neighborhoods find their own solutions to sanitation, health care, and education.   极其一般

• 更适合美国

  作者是美藉华裔，对中国的国情比较了解，对美国的投资方式比较了解，所以这本书，对于中国女性来说，可能较有价值的是思维方面的启蒙，但在具体投资策略方面，并没有多少帮助，中国目前投资渠道的相对单一，和金融体系成熟的美国不能比，所以中国女性限于条件，在具体实操方面，还是要研究一下中国的政策和渠道。

  书中有不少不同类型女性的对比，这种对比倒是很有意思，不同的性格和选择导向了不同的命运，时至今日，女性应该获得解放，不需要成为他人的附庸，所以需要确立自己的理财观，经济独立才能带来精神独立。

• 不管气不气，事故都在继续

  本书P186描述的“10.18”事件当时非常轰动，最近同一地点又发生了一起类似事件，也许可以印证本书的某些观点，由当地人转述记录如下：

  某机关单位处长级干部的妻子，在商场买了一件衣服，穿了一周后觉得不满意，欲退还商场。岂料商场售货员拒绝退货，口角随生，丈夫在旁被激的性起，随手拿起物什砸的售货员头破血流。事情由此而起，引来大批群众围观，警方随后到达现场，却并未立马带走当事人遣散群众，而是要求其表明身份。干部不是掏出身份证而是工作证（此人当时想法我不得而知），于是小纠纷演绎成官民相对，随后还讹传成官员对小民口出狂言：“我是**长（职位名称），想打你就打你，我家有权有势更有钱，谁都不怕”。满城风雨，媒体蜂拥。机关单位高度重视速战速决拿出处理结果以平民愤：个人撤职（领导职务）、事情私了、赔偿若干。

  想提一下这件事的原因在于此干部就职于司法机关，处理结果却非常具有“**特色”，真可谓坚持“能判则判，该调则调，判调结合”的原则，内部处理以消民怨，对外赔付以偿民损，但实质上这是耗损过大的“堵”而不是有条有理的“疏”，永远只能在矛盾激发“问题化”后慢半拍的补救，或许这已是现阶段最好的做法了但我们一直再提的制度建设在这里又有什么作用？

  至于本书，我还是倾向于应星老师在《大河移民上访的故事》一书中的写法，至少我可以只看事实叙述部分，略去那些社会学中扯淡的理论分析（社会学应该有理论研究吗？），本书在社会现实与理论两部分写的过于纠结了。至于“气”的提法，就不能不要那么形而上？也许有人会觉得有所得，但我觉得修辞的意义大于了实质。
