  在《牛津初阶英汉双解词典》中headmistress被译为‘(中小学的)(女)校长’，其英文定义为a woman who is in charge of a school，该辞典译者认为不可译为‘女校长’，因初学者或可误解为大学校长。我们再来仔细看一看英文的定义，再来常识性地想一想，有多少英语学习者在学到了headmistress这个级别的英文词时竟然还读不懂其英文的定义？除非从来没读过英文定义！即使没有学过in charge of，也应该将woman同school联系起来考虑，怎么会误解为‘大学校长’？从该词典发行到目前为止都算上，什么时候school变成了大学？

  对此，大概只有一种解释，即使用带有方块字的英汉词典的人士根本就不会去读英文的定义！而只去读中文的定义，只有在这种情况下，‘女校长’作为译文，又没有英文定义参照，才会有问题。既然在该辞典译者的潜意识中都认为该词典的使用者不会去读英文的定义，那么编写双解词典的意义又何在？

  写了大概一万三的中文摘要，按照每个章节的顺序，这是第一篇。居然还有140字字数限制，过分了。。。文笔真的不咋地，作者是华尔街日报的作者，不过听说这本书挺大卖的，毕竟这么多年就一本书，可以理解。还花了很多篇幅写文艺复兴其他员工的生活经历，离过几次婚之类的，水分有点大。外加不是经过本人授权的，有点小说性质。
