  原文是No Impact Man，正文中译作“无公害侠”，不过，确切地说，No Impact并不是无公害，而是对环境零影响。

  这是我跟人民邮电出版社第一次合作，负责的编辑人很好，很负责，书的出版速度也很快。谢谢跟我接洽的韦毅编辑！

  这本书类似《离开中国制造的一年》，讲一个纽约佬在纽约环保生活的故事。行文么，有点啰嗦，但跟“离开中国制造”的那种关注细节的女式啰嗦不一样，这本是男式啰嗦，细节少，但动不动就来上一段儿哲学思考。好吧，俺们泱泱华夏，看到美式哲思，可能是要发笑的……

  但我觉得美国人很好的一点是，想到一个想法，就立刻不折不扣地付诸实行。

  我在译者后记里也着重提到了这一点：如果你想改变什么东西，不管是制度上的，还是文化上的，从自己着手做起，抱怨没有用。老实说，我觉得这是这本书对中国人而言，最具现实意义的一点。为什么这么说，我不就多做解释了。

  因为这本书的译者后记在网上没有，这里贴上来。

  ——有些事，你觉得根本做不到，但那很可能只是因为你根本就没去试过

  这本书记录的是一个美国佬如同“神”一般的环保事迹：在纽约生活，又不对环境产生任何负面作用。乍听起来，这简直是在吹牛皮嘛，怎么可能呢？你会这么想。没错，刚刚接下这本书的时候，我也这么想。

  但他真的做到了：他不买带外包装的商品，他不开车，甚至不搭公交车，他只买本地出产的菜蔬粮食，他甚至不用卫生纸了！到了最极端的阶段，他连城市供电也放弃了，直接装了个太阳能蓄电板，能不用的家用电器全部放弃。

  毫无疑问，光从环保的角度来说，还处在发展中国家的我国读者可能很难理解这家伙做这些事情的意义。这难道不是他吃饱了饭没事儿干吗？难道生活不是只有挣钱才是硬道理吗？

  但环保只是这家伙进行极端尝试的目的之一。他更想知道，当一切的生产制度和社会制度都不支持个人环保选择的时候，一个人到底能对这些制度挑战到何种程度。

  挑战宏观的制度，挑战工业化这个庞然大物，对我们来说是不可想象的。事实上，我们的教育、我们的社会，每一天都在不停地告诉我们，“面对现实吧，你什么也不能做，你只能随波逐流。”我想，这样的态度深深地扎根在我们心底，令得我们麻木，令得我们不快乐。我们成了大环境的囚徒，我们没办法按照自己的心意去做出选择。

  作者开始也有过这种想法。要拯救这个地球，一个人的努力算些什么呢？什么也不算。所以，他光顾着批评这批评那，什么也没做。等他真正开始自己的无公害项目，才发现个人能够有所作为的空间非常大。这样的努力或许什么也不算，也不会带来任何可见的“成果”和“意义”，但通过尝试，他感觉对自己的生活多了选择、多了控制，他不再是工业社会里的“一颗螺丝钉”。

  这也是翻译本书让我感触最深的地方。如果我们每个人都努力去做做自己想干的事，而不是一味抱怨说，“这不可能”、“那不可能”，会不会过得比现在更加幸福和快乐呢？

  不如从现在开始，试试看吧。
