父子俩的书都看了。大概广东城中村和岭南民居并无什么联系。后知后觉的清醒。

野史居多,但是看了之后很让人怀疑历史中到底什么是真的,什么是假的,官方史书就一定是正确的吗
深度书评:
Review of Molecules: The Elements and the Architecture of Everything
作者:RegionRuler 发布时间:2017-04-20 13:05:49
This book is not a novel or other kinds of literature. On the contrary, it is a science popularizing book. Just as it’s name, the book mainly talks about molecules which compose the world. It has both words and pictures, so understanding becomes much easier. What’s more, the number of pictures is usually more than the number of words in one page. As a result, there are two people who contribute to this book: the author, Theodore Gray and the photographer, Nick Mann. These two people have cooperated with each other in many science popularizing books, such as Elements and Crazy Science. Although the book is about science, the words are understandable. The author tries his best to explain every term in a simple and vivid way, and he occasionally plays jokes to enhance the readability. So it’s not hard for a common person to understand it, even the person totally has no idea about science.
Since the book is a science popularizing book, it does not have a plot like literature. However, the order is very clear and acceptable. Molecules related to this book are all common in our daily life. The book is divided into 14 chapters. In the first chapter, the author talks about atoms, for the reason that molecules are composed of atoms. Then names of molecules are discussed briefly in the next chapter. From the third chapter to the last chapter, the author introduces molecules from simple to complex. The sequence is water, oil, minerals, plants, rocks, fibers, sugar (or saccharide), vitamins, coloring matters and molecules of biology such as proteins and DNA.
This book can be considered a successful science popularizing book. As mentioned above, the author has written a lot of science popularizing books, so he is very experienced in this field. It’s really important to illustrate a large number of pictures when introducing some knowledge of a science field. For example, the author shows vitamins, which are essential for our body, one by one mainly in pictures in the chapter “natural and artificial”. It’s too hard for a person, even he majors in science, to directly observe the properties like color and state of each vitamin, but he will know that vitamin B12 is a kind of red powder in this book.
Due to the terms are specialized in this field, many people misunderstand some of them like “organic”. The author tries to correct it in the chapter “dead or living”. He says: “I can’t help mentioning the meaningless definition of ‘organic’...... Using ‘organic’ to distinguish good or bad, natural or unnatural, healthy or artificial is quite meaningless......”
The author uses understandable words and vivid illustrations to make these kinds of concepts much easier to be admitted by people, and this is also the strength of the book. However, nothing is perfect, and this book is not an exception. A few terms are not explained accurately and a few pictures are used mistakenly. Here’s an example. In the chapter “rock and ore”, the author mistakes both pictures and definitions of emerald and malachite. Consequently, if not having some knowledge of them, one may confuse with them.
All in all, mistakes are much fewer than realities. Although I have known almost all concepts in the book, I still got some new ideas and gained some knowledge after reading it, especially the vivid illustrations. Therefore, we can say that this book is a very successful science popularizing book. I recommend you strongly to read it.
